    Random.... As Usual

I have been working on several different projects lately. I guess it's the chill in the air that re-energizes me to finish projects as well as start some new ones. It also makes me feel like spending more time in the kitchen. Honestly, in the summer, I spend very little time there. But bring on fall and winter and I'm constantly in the kitchen! Bad for the waistline but good for the soul. lol

So, one project I finally finished was my scrapbook room. Yay! It's not just a scrapbook room - I sew, paint, and do a lot of my hobbies in there. Anyway, here are some pics:

The french doors are right by the front door so it's a bonus that this room now looks good. ha

My desk with the lovely flat screen Bart got me for my bday. This way I can watch scrapbooking while I scrapbook.... yes, we already know I have ISSUES! LOL!

I had bought the curtains for the room a long time ago and had only purchased 2 panels, which the 1 very large window ended up needing. I was a little stuck on what to do for the 2nd window. I went to Pier 1 in hopes they still carried said curtain. No such luck. They had it in other colors but not any that matched.... so, I chose a red one.  It still needed a little something though. Well, I saw a little sewing bust made out of wire and got an idea.... hmmm....

    I snipped off the bottom

    cut

Wired it to the back and spray painted the whole thing black

    wired

Then attached it to the wall

    curtainhold

    All done!

    finished

I'm pleased with the way it turned out. Yay! It's my happy place even if I only get to go and sit in there for a few minutes.

I also did a cake this past weekend. Now, it's NO Jennifer cake. =) But it turned out alright. It was for Clint DeFrance's bday so, of course, because of that it needed to be a 'unique' cake. lol I decided to do one of those tall, floppy, party hats and this is what I came up with:

    crumbcoat partyhatcake

(For the record his bday is not until later this month but he came and spoke for us this past Sunday and we had a dinner at church so, it worked)

And for this weekend I am doing a cowboy boot for Kayla's bday. Never done that before either BUT that is pretty much what I do... STUFF I'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE! lol I hope it turns out well.

Now, I will leave you with a little quote from Bart that has had me chuckling to myself for weeks:

(The back story) A few weeks ago something happened that we have to deal with a couple of times a year------ a MOUSE made it inside the house!! ick! I called Bart at work and told him to bring home tons of traps! We have several that we leave in the storage rooms or any unfinished areas in the house just incase a mouse gets in, but nothing had been caught in any of those. So, we set the traps and went to bed. I came down the stairs in the morning and found a little mouse caught in a trap. Yes!! I told Bart and he came down to remove the mousy corpse. After he disposed of it, and I was bragging on him for taking such good care of me ( I HATE MICE!), he looked at me and said, ' You know there's something I should tell you.' (Hmm, really?)  'The trap that caught the mouse wasn't baited like the others. It was baited with biscuit and jelly................ I think the mice don't like the ORGANIC peanut butter and TURKEY bacon in the other traps.' LOL!  Really? Is that how the mice feel or is that how BART feels?!?! LOL!!

Until next time. Y'all have a good weekend!

Well, I am now home from my week long visit to McAlester to see Mom and Dad and take Matt home since he starts back to school next week. Icky! We had a great time with everyone - it's always good to see friends and family!

Early in the week Lydia and I decided to go digging for some old yearbooks. We searched high and low around the house and came up empty. Then, Mom tells us she thinks they're in the storage unit in town. oh yay! It's only 105 outside but off we go. We found them and I stumbled upon a box marked 'Jessica's room', mind you I haven't lived at home in about 13 and half years! What in the world is my mom doing storing such old stuff - I had NO IDEA! So we dragged the box home and proceeded to go through it. These are just a few of the treasures we found:

some old random pieces of jewelry

a sketch I had done before painting it for my mom (she raises German Shepards)

a stack of old notebooks... I enjoyed this one.

the owners manual to my Thighmaster.....fabulous

    posters from my room

and then there were these..... my old glasses. Glasses I had hoped would be lost forever. But NOOOOOO mom was saving these for me! LOL! Oh and an old book bag.

that first one was shaky because Lyd and I were laughing so hard

Good stuff. It's even better knowing that all of it is in the trash now and no longer taking up space in a storage unit in McAlester!!

The rest of the week we hung out just doing family stuff....

Juls and I had dueling laptops at the table

we helped Dad out in the garden

the boys played on the waterslide

we grilled out burgers. The boys assisted Mimi in the patty formation.

Then Logan gave it a try....

I love how they are looking at it like 'You did NOT do that right!'

we listened to Dad play. This is one of my favorite things when I go home.

we spent time with Grandma and Lavern since they live with Mom and Dad now it's super easy to do!

We drove back from McAlester on Monday and I dropped the boys off in Springfield with their Gram. I met Bart in town for a late dinner and then we went home and had the house to ourselves until today! I've missed the boys so much - it's really nice to have them back. Poor Bart hadn't seen them in a week and a half!! Yikes!

Tomorrow we are going to St. Louis with friends to eat on The Hill and then go to the Muny and see 'Fiddler On the Roof'!! I am so excited about that. Hopefully I'll have more pictures then. See ya soon (ish)! lol

  • completely RANDOM post

I have been engaged in a battle all summer and part of the spring with some birds at our house. Why is this important? Because I need HELP!! Does anyone know how to discourage swallows from building nests where they are NOT wanted??? I'm willing to try just about anything. Here's what's been going on -

We noticed the beginnings of a nest in mid May. We knocked it down 3 times. The morning after the third time a tiny little egg lay smashed on our porch and we felt awful and they were already rebuilding their nest yet again. We decided to let them finish their family in hopes they would then move on. This was not the best idea. They would 'swoop' at us when entering and exiting our home. grrrr..... AND they were making an awful mess. Finally, the day came when the babies could fly. I told Bart I had a job for him - to power wash the nest down since they had flown away!! Yay! What a great day. Here is how it went down:

This was their mess before the wash:

The nest                                          The nest with the pile of poo. eww

    bird1 bird2

the pile of poo. nasty. Why couldn't they build on the back of the house? WHY the porch?? ugh!

    bird3

Then the wash!! Really exciting! I was so sick of looking at that nest!

    bird4

The Bartman TCB! thank you!! I told Jennifer our husbands are so alike. (note the ear protection )

    bird5

    Then later that night....

    bird6

They were all back and missing their home. *sigh*

They stayed away for 4 days and it was so wonderful. Then on Sat. one started building a nest yet again!!!!!!!! I knocked it down 4 times just on Saturday. These guys are fast!!!! Anyway - HELP. Bart has suggested I put a giant stuffed owl up in the corner to frighten them away. No I do not dig stuffed creatures hanging from anywhere sooo any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Random, I know.

A Week of Friends and Fun

We had a wonderful Fourth of July week! We started off last week with a day trip to St. Louis on Monday. We decided to go early and make of day of shopping and playing before going to a Cards vs. Mets game.

I had chosen the St. Louis Mills mall because it seemed the best way to keep everyone happy. While Matt and I shopped Bart and the boys went rock climbing, drove cars, and who knows what all else. My only regret is they didn't have more stuff for me to buy. LOL! I was really ready to shop and there just wasn't much that appealed to me. Oh well.

Here are some pics from the day:

This is how Bart and I looked most of the time we were in the car this week. LOL Hey, when you're driving around with four boys in the car who can't seem to find all  4 sets of headphones for their movie or are playing their game boys head to head you NEED to escape! I escaped with Buble and Bart listened to lectures (I think). Hi-fi

He's such a stinker. We left at the 7th since we still had to drive all the way home.

After we got home Monday night it was time to pack and be ready to leave Tues. for Lebanon. We arrived with little time to spare before services (well we ran by the hotel to check in and change first). It was a really good meeting. It was fun to see friends and family we don't get to see that often. Here are some pics from the meeting:

Our seating arrangement was not the smartest. Poor Becca was stuck in between Lance and Monte and their sports discussions. LOL! Fortunately, we got to visit better at the pool back at the hotel.

When I was downloading pics I discovered about 5 of me helping out the waitress. I'm guessing Bart thought that was funny. Cross Eyed  Our waitress was a little stressed and the kids were really hungry and thirsty (not a good combo) so I handed out the drinks to calm the stirring mob. haha

On Friday night we went to watch Fire In the Sky at Faurrot Field. This year they added some fireworks inside the stadium as well as the ones further away. It was really pretty.

Levi is still at the age where he hates the loud noises. He was ready to leave almost immediately. Maybe he'll finally be able to enjoy them next year.

I thought I would add this picture of my personal paparazzo. Does he ever put that thing down?! But don't even think about taking his picture!! hahaha

That's all for me I hope you all have a great week!
